Our Viva!

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area • Flagler Beach, FL • NOV 13 - NOV 14, 2018

We set out on this three day trip (two nights at Gamble Rogers, one night at Anastasia State Park) knowing that we would be facing rain and cold temperatures. When we arrived at Gamble Rogers, heavy rain had already preceded us as you can see from the photo above. Fortunately, we had only occasional light rain during our two days here, not what had been forecast. And unfortunately, we did have cooling temperatures, but nothing like what the northeastern part of the country was experiencing (heavy snow!). Whew! Our first day we were on site 22, then on day two we moved across to site 21.

Linda just returned from her annual outing with her girlfriends from high school—this year they went to Beaufort, South Carolina—so this RV trip was mostly to relax and ocean gaze. And, as usual, she walked the beach and collected shells, including a unique one (see it in our photos) that literally washed up to her feet.

The ocean was churning, with perhaps the biggest waves we have seen here. The red "high hazard" flag was flying! Rick (aka "The World's Greatest Body Surfer" was tempted to conquer the waves, but mid-November is not the warmest time to venture into the water, especially considering the air temperature. He even took time off from running, but he did take Zoe on the nature trail in addition to the family walks we all took.

If you're a regular reader of our blog, you'll know that the Winnebago Trend is the twin to our Itasca Viva (Winnebago having absorbed the Itasca brand years ago). Within a span of seven spaces, there was our Viva and two Trends! The nearest Trend to us was from Boston, the other from Florida. And speaking of Boston, we met a couple who for years volunteered at the Mile 3 water station for the Boston Marathon. They were there in 2001 and 2002 when Rick ran Boston—there is a slight chance one of them handed Rick a cup of water during the race. Small world!
